My work explores the limitless possibilities of de-contextualizing, fragmenting, and rearranging found paper source materials such as vintage magazines, books, and letters, often in combination with paint and other media. I seek to create works that are primarily non-objective and invite interpretation from the viewer, often evoking a sense of both recognition and unfamiliarity or strangeness- more poetry than prose, more feeling than theme. I work intuitively without a destination in mind. Through a cycle of searching, tearing, arranging, painting, and mark-making, I let the materials lead me to a composition that is visually and emotionally resonant. I embrace the happy accident, where unlikely or unexpected juxtapositions of images, colors, text, shapes, and textures transcend the source materials and evoke some new meaning or emotion.
